All Australians should know something about the S.E.S
(State Emergency Service) for those that don't know anything about it ill try and give you some info.
The S.E.S is a volunteer organization setup by the Australian Government, our main roles are to assist the community in the event of a natural or man made disaster. We also are used to backup the police, fire and ambulance departments in the event that we are needed.
I am part of the Charters Towers/Dalrymple Shire S.E.S and also the stores officer for this unit. We get a few activation's in this area mainly storm damage (tarping roofs) and land searches where we would search for someone who is missing. The S.E.S has been a part of my regular life now for approx two years and the unit we have is very competent in what we do, have made many close friends through this unit and hopefully continue in this pattern.
Our unit trains every Wednesday night so we keep up to date in new rescue procedures and old one's too. Training is one of the most important things we do because if we dont learn what we need to do there's no point in going out to attempt a rescue.
At the moment our unit for certain members have got a chance to train with the fire department on a Monday night, this has helped
a lot in the knowledge of different services procedures
If you are interested in becoming a member or want info on the unit in your local area of the S.E.S look in your whitepages under S.E.S and get your local unit's phone number, go along one training night see what you think.
There's not much info here but I hope it has been useful and hope that maybe it has given you the thought that you might want to do this type of thing.
